Julia Tottle Police found Ms Tottle at the couple's home in Kewstoke on 5 July

A man has admitted killing his wife at their home in North Somerset.

Stephen Hotson, 45, pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied murdering 51-year-old Julia Tottle at a hearing at Bristol Crown Court.

Police found Ms Tottle at the couple's home in Crookes Lane, Kewstoke, near Weston-super-Mare on 5 July.

Hotson pleaded not guilty to murder on the basis of diminished responsibility and is due to stand trial next year.

He did not enter a plea to a charge of arson with intent to endanger life.

Ms Tottle died from head injuries.

Adam Vaitilingam, prosecuting, told the court that Hotson had "beat his wife to death".

Hotson was remanded into custody pending the trial, which has been set for 3 January.
